A Year of Chaos For Britney Spears

For almost a solid year, pop singer Britney Spears has been on a downward spiral that has yet to improve. After Spears aunt Sandra Bridges Covington (whom Spears was very close to) died of ovarian cancer.

A month later, Spears had checked into a drug rehabilitation center of which she checked out of less than twenty four hours later. It was on that day that Britney went to a haircutting studio in Tarzana, California and had her head completely shaved. She also went to a tattoo parlor to receive a new tattoo.

Several days later she checked herself into another rehabilitation center in Malibu. She left the clinic a day later only to return the day after that. The previous day, ex-husband Kevin Federline had requested an emergency hearing regarding the custody of his children with Spears but his attorney announced that his client asked to cancel the court appearance.

No further explanation was given. She then successfully completed the rehabilitation program on March 20, 2007. From there Spears was involved in several episodes of eccentric behavior that earned her headlines and the attention of the ever-hungry paparazzi.

These incidents include accidentally exposing herself, attacking paparazzi with an umbrella, and letting her children drive. As the legal battle over the custody of Spears children continued, many members of her entourage have been subpoenaed to testify about her parenting skills.

In September 2007 it was announced that Spears was to undergo regular drug and alcohol tests and to attend parenting counseling. Spears and Federline continued to share conditional joint custody of their two children. However, a few days later, Spears was charged with a hit-and-run, although she was booked, she was not arrested.

The trial is still forthcoming and if convicted, Spears could serve a year in prison. Then, on October 1, Kevin Federline received sole custody of their children.

Then, on January 3, 2008 it seemed like things could not get worse for the pop star as police were called to her home when she locked herself and her children in her home from Federline’s people.

The police then removed Spears from the home in an ambulance. It was reported that she was laughing hysterically the whole time and she was tested for drugs, although no foreign substance was found.

She was soon visited in the hospital by family friend Dr. Phil McGraw. Soon after, she lost visitation rights to her children with a trial pending for April.
