Have You Got Adequate Fire Protection In Your Garage?

Homeschooling

Often, garages are filled to the brim with chemicals and other flammable materials. This was something that I had not thought too much about, until the time that I learnt that a close friend had suffered a serious fire in their garage. It transpired that they did not have any form of fire protection in their garage at all. Like pretty much everyone else, they obviously just thought that such an incident would never happen to them. As a consequence of what my friend went through, this compelled me to reflect on the potential hazards and availability of fire protection within my own garage.

As I was so shocked by the damage to my friends garage and the potential threat that his family faced at that time, I evaluated the situation within my own garage. It was terrible that my friend went through this incident and I was not prepared to let the same thing happen to me.

I realised that it would be a good idea to ensure that all potential hazards were dealt with. With this, I checked that all of the flammable chemicals were stored safely, within my garage, and I removed any unnecessary materials (e.g. wood, paper etc.) that would only end up providing extra fuel, if a fire were ever to break out. I kept what I had in the garage to an absolute minimum.

Some internet research revealed that one of the best types of fire extinguishers for a garage, would be a powder fire extinguisher. This is because powder extinguishers are ideal for tackling fires that involve wood, paper and most importantly, the combustion of liquids. This would include liquids such as petrol, alcohol and paraffin, for example. So, I purchased one from an on-line UK fire extinguisher supplier. At the same time, I also bought a fire blanket as I thought that it would increase the level of protection within my garage.

The main reason for me having submitted this article, is because I would not like to see other people suffer the kind of damage that my friend endured. It ended up costing my friend thousands of pounds and at the time, the fire brigade informed him that he could have tackled the fire if he had had the necessary fire protection to hand.

So, the moral of this story would be to get on-line and get the fire safety of your garage sorted!
