Not only can fire, water, or even mold cause as much damage as heat damage to your electronic devices, but damage from heat can get into your electronic devices faster than the fire. It can destroy CDs, DVDs, your memory cards or boards, and most surely your hard drives because the heat is so high that it will just melt all of these items.

If the damage isn’t bad, you might be able to find someone that will be able to retrieve your information off of these, but most of the time they are just too far gone on, and you will have lose everything. If you have the time, you might want to have this information in writing form. You would either have to keep this in a lockbox at the bank or have a fireproof safe in your home. If something like this should happen, you will have all of this information safe. Another way to maybe secure your information would be to have them on other software that you can have them downloaded on to put in these other places.

Your hard drives can also be damaged because of physical shocks or high vibration, and these or most of these have a built-in seal that is around the sides. If the seal is broken, it can become exposed to environmental contamination such as air, which isn’t very clean. These particles can cause grinding of the recording plate, which will cause you to lose some of your data. If this hard drive were to get wet, the onset of water damage can occur when this is shut off and the water is allowed to sit. As water is corrosive, it can and will damage the metals inside your hard drive.

If you have put all of your important information on this hard drive and you didn’t have time to make a back-up copy, you will need to find a company that have specialists that can retrieve your information for you, but these are pretty expensive so if you don’t want or can’t afford the extra expense, you really need to make copies of all of this information as soon as possible. You never know when a fire might start or how bad the damage is until you are able to get in there to really see the damage. By then, it might be too late to save any of your fire-damaged electronics and computer systems.
