Louisiana is a state with a rich historical background. It became a French crown colony in the year of 1731. In 1763, it was ceded to Spain after the French and Indian wars ended. East of the Mississippi was the section in 1764 that came under British control. In the year, 1800 Louisiana reverted to France and then sold in 1803 by Napoleon to the United States.

The southern section known to be the territory of Orleans in 1812 became the state of Louisiana. While the Civil War was taking effect, Louisiana joined the confederacy while New Orleans was captured in 1862. Louisiana’s economy was hurt during reconstruction but the situation got better at the turn of the 20th century with discovering oil and natural gas and also the industry growth that took lace.

Louisiana is a big leader in salt, natural gas, sulfur production and petroleum. Offshore deposits provide much of the sulfur and oil. There are also large crops that are provided by the state such as rice, sweet potatoes, pecans, sugar cane, cotton, corn and soybeans.

There are many leading manufactured items that include processed food, chemicals, coal products, lumber, paper, wood products, apparel, transportation equipment and petroleum. The state of Louisiana has become a very popular tourist destination for many people.

New Orleans draws in many people each year for its exciting French Quarter and Mardi Gras celebration that has been going on since 1838. Some of the other interesting points of interest are the Superdome in New Orleans, historical plantation homes, Cajun Country located in the Mississippi Delta region, Baton Rouge the State Capital and Chalmette National Historic Park.

During 2005 Louisiana was tragically hit by hurricane Katrina, tearing apart New Orleans an ending up killing hundreds of people in the state. There was criticism of federal and local officials all over for slow response to this tragedy.

Louisiana offers many area attractions if you decide to visit this state. It is a popular place for tourist and many people call the state of Louisiana their home. There are many museums, restaurants, shopping centers, live events, music, theaters, lakes, outdoor events and many more interesting things to see and do while visiting the state of Louisiana.

You will not run out of things to do with so much going on all over the area. Louisiana has something to offer to everyone and is a popular place to bring your family on vacation.
