Overeating is often the result of unhelpful eating habits. If you can get rid of these habits then the overeating and subsequent weight gain will be a thing of the past.

The problem with habits is the fact that they generally start so insidiously that more often than not we don’t even notice them. Once they become ingrained though it is very hard to break the cycle and make changes.

Many people who are overweight have a variety of unhelpful habits that all combine to create the state that they find themselves in.

And what makes matters worse when food is involved is the way that it reacts with our body and in particular those foods that cause cravings and the need for ever increasing quantities in an attempt to keep us satisfied.

How often do you find yourself eating due to the particular emotional state of mind that you are in?
It is common for people to eat when they are feeling sad, depressed, lonely, happy and so on, as all these emotions can trigger a craving.

These eating ‘habits’ are very often very difficult to break simply because most of the time we are unaware that they exist. Self hypnosis is a great way to break these habits. Mastering self-hypnosis is easy and doesn’t take long at all.

Self hypnosis usually involves listening to an audio CD, mp3, pod-cast or other mass-produced media, intended to induce a willingness to absorb suggestions centred around a specific topic such as losing weight, stop smoking, getting rid of bad habits/phobias/addictions etc.

Unfortunately, this kind of hypnosis is generally prepared by someone who doesn’t know anything about the person being hypnotized, often presenting unwanted, even unpleasant imagery and suggestions.

For example, if you are allergic to pollen, the last thing you want to hear about is a slow walk on through a spring meadow. In this case, the “self” in self hypnosis simply means that you listen to it by yourself.

True, effective self hypnosis is necessarily be created by the very person who will ultimately use it and benefit from it. Unlike the mass-produced hypnosis, this hypnosis is made for the exact purpose the person wishes, including the precise words and phrases that mean the most to that particular person.

True self hypnosis is thus created by the person to suit his or her own needs. In this case, the “self” in self hypnosis really does mean that you are hypnotized by yourself!

Below is a summery of the hypnotic process. Though lots of variations of this method have been used, these are the basic steps you have to go through in order to hypnotize yourself to lose weight.

1. Prioritise. If possible, your goals should be specific, measurable, realistic, relevant and time-defined.

2. For each goal, you should formulate fitting suggestions/affirmations which means you have to convert your goals into specific instructions to your subconscious mind on how to achieve each goal.

3. Use the first minutes of your self hypnotic session to get as relaxed as possible. Try to forget all your worries and problems. Make sure you will not be interrupted. (switch off your mobile phone!)

4. Repeat out loud the suggestions/affirmations you have chosen. Visualize your goals as if they are already reality.

5. You can also customise a script and record it with suitable background music or sound.

Do your hypnotic sessions every day, five minutes a day is enough. Repeat your suggestions as often as possible during the day.
