Like most people today, we have so many things that could wipe us out if we might have a fire in our home. We really need to make sure that we do whatever it takes to keep a fire from coming or happening inside or outside our home. At Christmas time, you will see so many people putting lights everywhere around their homes. They will put so many in their trees and on the homes itself that when you plug all of these lines together, you will, in most cases, overload the extension cords in all likelihood. Running these cords over your grass could cause them to become wet from rain or snow and cause these cords to become frayed, which in turn could cause them to start a fire. This should be avoided at all times because of the risks.
There are many things in the home that in itself can start a fire, and there are several things that you can put into play that might help you escape in the event of a fire. You will need to put in fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, make an escape plan that everyone in the house knows by heart, and put matches, lighters, and candles up out of the reach of little children because these little kids are born to be curious snoops. Do regular checks for frayed or exposed wires, and if found, get them replaced and the old bad ones cut and throw away. When you cut the cord to an old appliance, it will keep someone for trying to reuse this bad item.
With our economy in such bad shape, you might find someone going through your trash for things they could possibly use. You would really be shocked to find that there are a lot of people that do this very thing. They will take these items home to try to use them, and this isn’t good because this item could start a fire in their home.
You will also make an inspection of your home to make sure that you don’t plug up a heat source with anything that is flammable, and if using an electric heater, make sure that there isn’t anything too close to it. If it isn’t needed, then make sure that it isn’t left plugged in. If you have a wood stove or fireplace, put a screen in front of it so that no sparks can come onto your floors or clothes. If you smoke, you might want to try smoking outside the home and not inside.
