Ones identity is one of the most important, if not the most, natural acquisition that a person can have in his life. It is our foundation for who we are, what we have, what we achieved and what we will achieve and acquire. Take out ones identity, and you strip a person of that foundation. Strip that foundation, and where will that leave the person? Without an identity one cannot make transactions, dealings, and even little everyday things in society for identity are the most significant basis to do all these things. Thus, the crime of identity is horrendous in its implications.

Sure, we have heard of personal property theft. We have heard of theft in terms of robbery, but who could ever have thought that identity could be stolen? Identity is, in a sense, a thing of abstractness and idea. How something that is concrete be stolen? You might ponder on this, but we must keep in mind that there are a lot of concrete documents that can show ones proof of identity and existence. Although identity in its most natural form cannot be taken, identity all forms of documentation can be stolen.

Indeed, id theft is a very serious crime in both its idea and its implications. And it is a reality that nowadays, it is a growing crime. For the victims of identity theft, it might just be like being in a very bad horror movie. Ii is horrible to contemplate that somewhere, someone you do not know is taking on who you are. That someone is using all the things you have worked hard for in the past to his/her advantage.

What are the types of id theft?
The types of identity theft are relative to how the theft uses your identity for his vested interests. In this regard, it can be said that the types of identity theft are also the various ways that your stolen identity is used by the thief. The following are just some of the types of id theft, but are considered to be most common.

Financial ID theft.
In this kind of theft, the thief uses your identity to acquire a loan or withdrawal from a financial establishment, like a bank or a loan institution, by pretending to be you. The criminal will be able to present documents of personal information stolen from you to the institution, so the lender or financial representative will not be able to think that it is not legitimate. With this kind of use, the criminal does not reveal himself, but authorities can apprehend the criminal by tracing where the funds for the loan are mailed.

Identity concealment.
Identity concealment means that the criminal is probably running away or hiding from authorities. Thus, in order not to be traced, he has to use the identity of someone else. This can then be the reason and the way by which the identity stolen from you is used. The criminal who uses your identity for this situation is probably someone who tries to escape arrest for his crimes, is in a foreign country working illegally or is hiding from creditors. With this type of use of stolen identity, it is much more difficult to apprehend the criminal because the criminal can obtain other fraudulent documents to keep the concealment going on.

Yes, identity can be stolen. Ignorance can work very much to your disadvantage, so it is always good to arm yourself with knowledge on this crime.
