Are you someone who really enjoys the sound of water? Whether it is just a low level trickling or a more rushing sound like a natural stream, many people think that there is nothing quite so soothing and relaxing as the sound of water. This is one reason why indoor fountains and other water features are becoming so popular in homes today.
Not all water features have to be built in and this has created a great market for portable fountains. These portable indoor water features are great when your interior space is limited and they are also easy to operate and maintain. For the most part you just fill them with water and plug them in. They are similar to watering a house plant in that you only have to fill them up again occasionally. Portable water features can be moved easily from room to room and relatively safe from causing any water damage.
The flip side of portable fountains and water features are the ones that are installed in a more permanent way in a home because they have plumbing built in to them. These are not just installed in upscale homes anymore, even more moderately priced homes are having them incorporated into the design of whatever room they would like to have one in.
Built in water features on the indoors are usually put in a foyer, bedroom, living room, or dining room. They can add an elegant touch and become the focal point of any of these spaces. They can be rustic built with natural stones that present a more natural setting or they can be done using mirrors, metals, or any other more modern materials to lend a more updated look. The key to any indoor water feature is in the installation. They must be installed properly or they have the potential to make your focal point water damage.
A dedicated do it yourself-er could bite off a little more than they can chew if they attempt to install an indoor water feature that is a little on the elaborate side. There are kits that you could purchase that give start to finish instructions for installation, but it might not be as easy as it sounds since it will involve plumbing and possibly some electrical wiring. Your insurance company might have a problem with your claim if you install something like a water feature inside the home and then something goes wrong.
If you have any doubt at all as to your ability to build or install an indoor water feature, it would be wise to hire a professional to put it in for you because anytime that you are going to have something that uses water inside the home that will probably be running all of the time, you want to make sure it is installed correctly so that the possibility of causing water damage will be minimal.
