If you’re like me and you’re a game freak, then you are constantly looking for new sites to play games on as well as new games to play in general. Just recently I ran into a game online called “Kalooki”, also known as kalookie, Kaluki, Kaloochi, Caloochi, Kalougi, and Kalogghi. There are also different types of Kalooki that follow different rules of engagement, some of the variations include Jamaican, European, North American, and South African. This is a really fun game that has a sort of spin on a rummy card game. Here’s a little bit more about the game below including an Intro to Kalooki, players and game play/cards, and scoring. I’m going to share the North American version because that’s where I’m located. But you can find the info on the other varations at Pagat/rummy/kaluki2.
- Pack of card’s includes 108 cards in all
- When 2, 3 or 4 people play a game, players are given 15 cards. When 5 play 13 cards to each are given, and when there is six players 11 cards are given to each player
- Cards can’t be taken from the discard pile until you put down your first meld
- Aces can be counted as high or low so A-K-Q and A-2-3 are valid but 2-A-K are not.
- Aces count as 15 points and if you have a Joker in your hand at the end of the game it counts as 25 points
- Once you have made your first meld you can reuse a melded Joker by substituting a valid natural card for it
- There is no pool or buying in
- At the end of each players hand the winner scores the total amount of all the cards remaining in the hands of fellow players
- The object of this game is to meld all your cards before anyone else does (which is some what like another game called Canasta)
